Your Donation Saves Lives!
We count on your donations to continue our life-saving work. As a non-profit organization with no paid staff members, our dedicated volunteers work tirelessly on behalf of local animals. And our efforts are paying off. Our innovative programs have been credited with reducing the number of animals who are euthanized at our local animal control facility. Our dream is that one day, no adoptable animals will be killed in area shelters. We thank you for helping us realize this dream.Visit the donation page to see where your money goes.

About Hugo

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
HUGO is not in the shelter; he is in a foster home in our Rescue Program, so use the contact info at the bottom of his description.  Hugo is an approx 1 year old neutered male Mastiff mix who would love to be your new best friend!  Hugo is super sweet and loves attention.  He has a slight bone defect of his skull that gives him a bit of a wobbly gait, and causes his tongue to hang out rather adorably.  Hugo has had an MRI and been evaluated by a neurologist who feels Hugo's condition is stable and does not require intervention.
Hugo is in a foster home with two rabbits and has done well with a cat he met.  He basically loves everyone he meets, including other dogs.  Because of Hugo's condition, he cannot always stop himself once he gets going.  As his foster mom put it - "when he plays he cannonballs his body in to people, pets and things like a reckless barrel of joy" - so Hugo will do well with a fenced yard where he can burn off energy, and a home without tight spaces.  While Hugo would love a canince playmate, because he does not have good control of his movements, care will need to be taken in choosing his friends as not all dogs will appreciate having their space invaded.  He is a large but compact 94 pounds.
Hugo's front paws tend to turn under when he walks, so he should be walked mainly on grass or other soft surfaces.  Hugo is a joy to be around and will be a wonderful companion for the right person or family!  He has been neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, heartworm tested, and microchipped.  Please contact AdoptADog@animal-advocates.org or 410 880 2488 option 3.
