We count on your donations to continue our life-saving work. As a non-profit organization with no paid staff members, our dedicated volunteers work tirelessly on behalf of local animals. And our efforts are paying off. Our innovative programs have been credited with reducing the number of animals who are euthanized at our local animal control facility. Our dream is that one day, no adoptable animals will be killed in area shelters. We thank you for helping us realize this dream.Visit the donation page to see where your money goes.
Do NOT contact the shelter about Max--he is in a foster home. Poor Max, he is on hold for adoption right now. When we first brought Maxwell into our foster program, we had a specialist take a look at his hips. He was diagnosed with mild dysplasia, not surprising for his breed mix or his size. We followed a prescribed exercise program, and his strength improved dramatically, so much so he did all dog things totally normally.
Then he developed a weird growth on his elbow, had it biopsied and it was benign. Then came another one on his ankle. He had surgery to remove it, and it was determined he had a rare, but benign condition that sometimes affects young large dogs, esp Shepherd-types. The one on his elbow grew very large, and was removed in a separate surgery. Unfortunately, the location of the elbow, which bends and bears weight while lying down made it impossible to heal. Back in he went for a 3rd surgery, to "rearrange" the skin on the elbow, so the suture line was not on a pressure point. THIS POOR GUY HAS BEEN WEARING THE CONE HEAD FOR # MONTHS!!!! This surgery required the skill of a specialist, and we are calling Max the "Million Dollar Dog".
We are also spelling his name Maxxx, as he is extra large boy, weighing about 110 pounds at about a year old. Maxxx gets along well with other dogs, is super friendly, very sweet, but has a shepherdy personality and would be best with someone with large dog experience and one who has had Shepherds or Rotties types in the past.
If you can't give Maxxx a forever home, please consider donating to the Maxxx Fund, we still have some follow-up costs to cover, and we are running low. For more information call 410-880-2488 #3 or always4tucker@yahoo.com.
