Gina is in a foster home in our Rescue Program; please use the contact info below. Gina just spent two months in the county shelter where she was a favorite of many. She was very stressed in that environment, was losing weight, and was barking out her unhappiness. An emergency foster home stepped up and gave her a safe place to land.
Here is the report from Gina's foster family: "Gina has been a joy to foster. She is quite smart, learns quickly and is a good eater! She has gained 2 pounds in a week so now weighs 14 pounds. She appears to be housetrained and is well-behaved in the house. For all the barking she did in the shelter, she is very quiet here. She rides well in the car. She doesn't play much with toys, but loves her walks. She walks nicely on a leash, is very friendly with any person that walks by. Wags her tail right away and goes up to be petted. Although we don't go up to other dogs on our walk, she doesn't make a fuss when she sees them at a distance.
The Kong doesn't last long, so she is using a treat dispensing ball that she figured out right away. If I say "Gina" she turns eyes to me. If I say "out" she goes to the door. I say "stay" while I get her food (a word she also knows) and she stays. She lays down when I ask. She puts her nose in the harness to help get it on.
Earlier today, she went into her crate and got her Kong out and brought it to me and dropped it at my feet and looked up at me, like 'can you fix it?' As I said, she really is smart.
I think she was used to having the run of the house in a previous life. Although I crate her at night, when I come home during the day she is always laying on a blanket waiting for me. When I'm home, she just wants to be with me, to sit next to me and to be petted.
At some point, this dog must have been someone's loyal companion and she stuck by them. I hope she's adopted by an equally loyal human."
We are looking for someone with terrier experience or someone who truly takes the time to understand the breed. Gina, like most JRT's, has a high prey drive so cats are a no, and so is being off leash unless in the safety of a physical fence. She's done okay with some dogs and not others, again, very typical for her breed. She is first and foremost a people dog and will do best with adopters who understand that and don't feel the need to force the issue. Gina has been spayed, is heartworm negative and on preventive, has had distemper vaccine and rabies vaccine, is free of fleas and intestinal worms, and has been microchipped. The shelter estimated her age at 7, but the vet guesses closer to 5 years old. If you are looking for a special dog who will be a great friend, please call 410.880.2488 ext 3 or
