Your Donation Saves Lives!
We count on your donations to continue our life-saving work. As a non-profit organization with no paid staff members, our dedicated volunteers work tirelessly on behalf of local animals. And our efforts are paying off. Our innovative programs have been credited with reducing the number of animals who are euthanized at our local animal control facility. Our dream is that one day, no adoptable animals will be killed in area shelters. We thank you for helping us realize this dream.Visit the donation page to see where your money goes.

  ANIMAL ADVOCATES MICROCHIP
CLINIC HUGE SUCCESS!

We provided permanent identification for 173 pets, including 2 rabbits and 1 ferret at our reduced-cost microchip clinic. A microchip is a small inert ID that is inserted between the shoulder blades of pets. If a lost pet comes into a vet office or Shelter, a scanner provides immediate identification. The practice of microchipping is a fairly new technology, but has reunited thousands of lost pets with their owners.

Thanks to Ruth Chase of The Coventry School www.thecoventryschool.com (410.381.1800) for providing the facilities for this event.

All animals who are adopted through the Shelter here in Howard County are automatically microchipped, and responsible rescue groups are doing the same. This way, if the animal should ever come into a shelter, the agency from which it was adopted can be alerted.

Importantly, microchipping allows fast and easy tracking of owners across county and state lines. Without a microchip, it can take days or even weeks to locate a pet - and it could be too late! The end result is that shelter space is freed up for those who really need it, reducing the rate of euthanasia.

A number of pets were chipped for free for caretakers in financial need.

Thanks to our volunteers, and especially Dawn, Melissa, Annie and Leah from the Shelter. Below, you can see Melissa and Dawn microchipping Remy, a Cocker Spaniel. His Mom travels frequently, and leaves her dogs in the care of trusted petsitters. But she wanted to give him every protection possible in case of an accidental escape.

Pee Wee the cat came to the microchip clinic due to a tragedy regarding the sibling. Both are indoor cats, as they should be(!). But a visitor left the door open and her sister went missing. Despite calling local shelters, vet offices, and posting lost signs, her sister cat was never found. Now this little girl has the added protection of a microchip.

The Golden Retriever here signed up a few days before the clinic. A dog had been found in her neighborhood.

The stray dog was picked up, taken to theShelter, his owner located, and he was on his way home in less than an hour! All due to a microchip!

Beautiful Maiyim was adopted from our shelter years ago before microchippingwas an option. Here he is with his pictured with his Mom and Dad.

They describe him as perfect, and wonder why no one ever came forward to claim him. That's what we always wonder too... What a treat to see Maiyim so happy and so loved!

We hope to have our microchip clinic at least twice a year.
